Summer is on the way

The sun is shining, bluebells are blooming and the birds are singing. That must mean the Summer Term of Maxwell Mini Music is nearly here.

I’ve had a fun and musical-packed Easter holiday. St George’s Church choir had an amazing tour to Italy where we sang in five different venues including St Paul’s and St Peter’s Basilicas.

After we’d returned from Italy, I was home for one day before heading off to Huddersfield. This may not be as exotic a location as Rome but it didn’t disappoint. I was there on a four day course held by the British Kodály Academy. The days were busy but very productive. The three hours of morning sessions were for everyone and included vocal warm-ups, choir and the highlight of the morning, musicianship classes with the wonderful Lucinda Geoghegan (of National Youth Choirs of Scotland and EY music publishing fame). The four hours of afternoon session had various options ranging from conducting and ensemble singing to preparing lessons integrating children with special educational needs in the primary classroom. As I’m currently studying for the Kodály Certificate in Early Years, most of my afternoons were spent with Zoe Greenhalgh (author of ‘Music and Singing In The Early Years) looking at various aspects of Early Years methodology. Learned so much and had loads of fun along the way.

I’m now bursting with ideas and enthusiasm for the term ahead. Maxwell Mini Music classes start again this Monday 29th April at St. George’s Church in Beckenham. 4-30 months at 11am and 30 months+ at 10am. Looking forward to meeting long standing families and friends and greeting new ones to the sessions.  Places are still available in these small friendly groups.  To book your place ring Janey on 07762 102732 or email  maxwellminimusic@gmail.com
