Looking forward to my trip to Hungary next week. I’m off to Budapest with the British Kodály Academy for an Early Years study tour. We’re visiting a number of Kindergartens and Primary Schools and attending a number of workshops. Watch this space to share in my Kodály adventure.
Last academic year I studied for the Certificate of Professional Practice in the Kodály Concept of Music Education in Early Childhood with the British Kodály Academy. The course covered various aspects including: the selection and analysis of thirty songs suitable for the Early Years Music environment; an extended essay on Kodály’s philosophy of music education; assessment of my planning and teaching plus critiquing others. In addition to this there was an element of developing my personal musicianship. I’m delighted to say I achieved a Distinction in the Certificate and also… Read more Celebrating! →
I recent posted some comments from parents and carers who have enjoyed Maxwell Mini Music. I’ve just had another message and it’s too good not to share! ‘We joined Janey’s music class when my youngest daughter was around seven months old. We both love her weekly sessions, which have given us a little protected time away from busy lives to experience the joy of music together. Janey organises the sessions in such a way that the children quickly become familiar with their format, and my daughter has enjoyed the props… Read more Another happy post! →

I’m currently on the train home after a truly inspirational week at the British Kodaly Academy’s summer school in Nottingham. It’s been my sixth residential course with them and it’s enabled me to further develop my own musicianship (with Bori Szirányi) and provide opportunities to reflect upon and develop my own teaching methods. In addition to this we’ve enjoyed daily sessions of vocal technique, choral workshops, conducting classes and opportunities to play singing games with the wonderful Lucinda Geoghegan. The evenings offered more varied distractions ranging from a ceilidh to… Read more Kodály inspired music education →
